  • How to use the nursing bra strap adjusters

Bra strap adjusters provide support and extra space for your Tommee Tippee® Wearable Breast Pump to sit inside your nursing bra comfortably.

    To attach bra strap extenders

Simply hook one end of the bra extender onto the inside strap of your nursing bra and tighten the other end securely.

Adjust to fit your Wearable Pump

Loosen straps so your breast pump slips into your nursing bra easily.

Once positioned, tighten to a comfortable fit that helps to support your Wearable Breast Pump, without feeling restrictive.

With the right support, you should be able to move around while expressing hands-free. Your breast shouldn’t feel squashed or too loose.

  • How to use your Wearable Breast Pump

Before first use and every new session, clean, dry and sterilise all breast pump parts that come into contact with breast milk:

    • Horn

    • Inserts

    • Milk collector

    • Duckbill valve

    • Diaphragm

Using the 150ml bottle and milk storage lid included with your pump? If so, these should be cleaned, dried and sterilised too.

You can safely sterilise all these parts using microwave or electric steam sterilisation, cold watersolution or boiling water.

    First, align and position

    1. Make sure you have measured your nipples and chosen the correct horn insert (if required).

    1. Press the horn firmly against your breast, leave no gaps and make sure your nipple is centred and looking directly into the tunnel. Keep the pump upright using your nursing bra as a support. If required, use the bra adjusters provided to make extra room in your nursing bra.

    1. Select your desired suction mode and level to begin expressing.

    1. Switch modes and levels help keep you comfortable, stimulate let-down, and express breast milk more effectively.

    If you’re new to expressing

    • Spend some time trying different settings to find a pattern that works best for you. At the beginning, we recommend starting at a low suction level, and working your way up each time.

    • When you’re ready, increase the suction every 30-40 seconds, until you find an intensity that matches your comfort and output. If the suction feels too intense, drop back down any time.

    • Remember, what feels right for you can change from one session to the next, so it’s normal to swap between settings as your comfort levels and breast milk supply shift.

  • Ending your session

    1. When you’ve finished expressing, press the power button for 3 seconds to switch the pump off. Break the seal between your breast and the horn with your finger.

    1. Separate the milk collector from the pump motor.

    1. Pour your expressed breast milk into the bottle provided, make sure the opening slot at the top of the horn is aligned with the bottle stood on a flat surface.

Your pump automatically turns off after 30 minutes to help keep you comfortable and prevent overfilling, so you don’t waste a drop. The built-in timer helps to support gentle, well-paced sessions and offers reassurance if you lose track of time.

  • How do I store my breast milk after I pump?

Once you’ve completed a session, you can easily pour expressed milk into a baby bottle from the opening at the top of the milk collector.

Your Wearable Breast Pump comes with a Tommee Tippee® 150ml Natural Start® Bottle and milk storage lid, so you can store expressed milk straight away. These storage lidsare also compatible with our Natural Start® Silicone Bottles.

When you’re ready to feed, simply unscrew the storage lid and replace with a screw ring attached teat.

Breast milk storage bags may also come in handy – safe and secure with a double fastened seal, these bags can be conveniently stored in the fridge or freezer. Above the seal, there’s space to write the date and volume of expressed milk, so you can track usage more easily.

NHS guidelinesrecommend labelling stored breast milk with the date so it can be used within the advised timeframe, helping to avoid waste.

    Frozen

    6 months

    • When you want to freeze expressed breast milk, leave some space at the top of your bottle or storage bag for it to expand. It’s easiest to freeze breast milk in individual feed quantities of 2-4oz or 60-125ml.

    • Thaw frozen breast milkin the fridge or by standing your bottle or storage bag in lukewarm water until it has reached body temperature. Or use a Tommee Tippee® bottle warmer.

    • Your breast milk may separate out into layers when you store it. Give it a shake to mix it thoroughly before feeding your baby.

    • If you want to take expressed milk out and about with you, make sure it stays cold or frozen until you need to feed your baby.

The latest Tommee Tippee® Double Wearable Breast Pump comes with more horn inserts than our previous model, making it easier to find your best fit.

Additional inserts support a better fit, which in turn reduces leaks and discomfort, and supports a positive breast pumping experience.

Each pump has a 24mm horn and five interchangeable inserts in 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm and 21mm.

How to use your nipple measurement guide

A nipple measurement guide is included with every Double Wearable Breast Pump pack to help you determine whether an insert can aid the fit.

  1. Gently stimulate your nipple so it’s at full size and repeat on the other side.

  1. Measure the diameter of each nipple in millimetres using the nipple measurement guide provided.

  1. Make sure you measure both nipples because no two nipples are the same.

  1. Once you have measured both nipples, choose the horn insert that is closest to your nipple size, and then consider experimenting with the size above and the size below.

  1. Keep your nipple measurement guide in a safe, convenient spot, so you can easily reach for it as your nipple size changes over time.

You will have found your ‘sweet spot’ when you experience the greatest comfort and a consistent milk flow.

If your nipple rubs or feels pinched against the sides of the insert, this may indicate your horn size is too small. We recommend going up a size with the inserts included for a more comfortable fit.

If expressing feels uncomfortable or sore, you may need a smaller insert.

We recommend regularly measuring your nipples as your optimum size may change over time. The inserts can be swapped as little and often as you like. It’s all about what’s comfortable and effective for you.

This pump uses two-stage suction that closely mimics a baby’s natural feeding rhythms. It has 4 modes which change the pattern of the pulls to help trigger let-down, build flow, and express efficiently, and up to 9 suction levels.

By switching between massage and express modes, you can find a feeding pattern that works best for you.

  • Massage modes

Your Wearable Breast Pump has two massage modes (with 6 levels) to stimulate breast milk production and encourage let down.

    Soft-stimulation mode (suction levels 1-6)

    • A short sucking pattern to stimulate the mammary glands and breast milk flow.

    • Best used at the start of a session to encourage let-down.

    • Mimics the gentle, rapid sucking a baby uses to bring breast milk in at the start.

If you select Soft-stimulationmode and leave to run, your pump will increase suction every 45 seconds until it reaches the maximum, level 6. Once you have established a good routine, you may wish to start this mode at a slightly higher level using the + and - buttons. Your pump will move up a level from your desired settings to mimic baby’s natural rhythm.

    Stimulation mode (suction levels 1-6)

    • A pattern of 10 short and one long pull to efficiently express breast milk and empty hind milk.

    • Ideal for boosting output.

    • Reflects the mixed rhythm (short, quick sucks with longer pulls that babies often use to keep milk flowing and reach the fattier hind milk.

By default, Stimulation mode starts at level 1 and automatically and gradually increases until it reaches the maximum, level 6. If you select your preferred level, your pump will not increase automatically to help support a more personalised pumping experience.

  • Express modes

Your Wearable Breast Pump has two express modes (with 9 suction levels) to mimic baby’s natural sucking rhythm to gently and effectively express breast milk. The suction level will not increase automatically. Use the + and – buttons to help you find an expression pattern that works best for you.

    Double Drop mode (suctionlevels 1-9)

    • Faster suction pattern with more pulls per minute.

    • Imitates the steady, rhythmic sucking of a content feeding baby, keeping expression comfortable.

    Expression mode (suction levels 1-9)

    • A longer, deeper suction pattern designed for fast, efficient breast milk expression.

    • Gentle but effective, it helps stimulate foremilk flow and supports full expression.

    • Mirrors the longer, stronger sucks that efficiently drain the breast once milk is established.

  • Choose your suction strength

Your breast pumps suction levels control and adjust the intensity gradually, from one level to the next.

    • Lower suction = A gentler pull which is ideal when you’re just starting a session or if you’re breasts feel more sensitive.

    • Higher suction levels = Stronger suction to help you express more milk once your flow is established.

    Where to start

If you’re at the start of your pumping journey, we recommend beginning low and working your way up a level each time, until you find the setting that feels natural for you. When you’re ready to increase, wait 30-40 seconds before moving up a level to give your breasts a moment to adjust.

Remember, a higher suction doesn’t necessarily mean more output. Slowly switching between different levels allows you to achieve greater customisation, improving overall comfort and performance.

Your Tommee Tippee® Wearable Breast Pump must be cleaned, dried and sterilised before first use and before every new session. The pump motor should not be washed or sterilised. Always disassemble components before cleaning or sterilisation.

  • How do you clean Wearable Breast Pump parts by hand?

    1. Rinse all separated parts that come in contact with your breast and breast milk in cool water.

    1. Soak all separated parts in warm soapy water for 5 minutes.

    1. Clean with a clean dish cloth or soft brush.

    1. Rinse all separated parts with clean water.

Comfort and fit

Finding your fit: How do you measure for a breast pump?

The right fit for you is based on how your nipple fits into the tunnel of the horn or insert. Your Wearable Breast Pump will come with an easy nipple measurement guide to help you find your perfect fit:

  1. Measure the diameter of each nipple in millimetres using the nipple measurement guide provided – hold the different cut-out spaces against your nipple to see which size best aligns with you.

  1. Make sure you measure both nipples, because no two are the same.

  1. Once you have measured both nipples choose the horn insert that is closest to your nipple size and then consider experimenting with the size above and the size below.

Remember, every session is different, and your nipples may change size over time. We recommend regularly measuring your nipples and adjust the insert size accordingly.

How do you know if your breast pump fits?

Although it can be a little tricky to get used to at first, expressing and pumping breast milk shouldn't hurt, feel uncomfortable or cause breast tenderness. You will have found the right fit when you experience the greatest comfort and a consistent milk flow.

Your whole nipple should fit comfortably without much, if any, of the areola entering the tunnel of your chosen horn or insert before you start pumping. Your nipple should be centred in the middle and move freely in and out of the tunnel while you pump, without causing rubbing, redness or pain.

After each session, your pump should express most of your milk and your breasts should feel noticeably softer.

Nipple measurement tips to look out for include:

  • Size is too small: All your nipple rubs against the tunnel and none of your areola gets pulled in.

  • Size is too big: More of your areola is sucked into the horn and may rub against the edge of the tunnel.

  • Size just right: While you pump, only a small amount of your areola is pulled into the tunnel, not too much or none.

How do I fit a wearable pump comfortably into my bra?

After having a baby, your breasts may have changed in both shape and size – and it’s a good idea to get your bra size re-measured so you can find comfortable nursing bras that offer better support.

Our Wearable Breast Pumps have an anatomical shape, designed to slip discreetly into your nursing bra. When positioned in your bra, your pump should be upright and sit level against your breast, even when you’re moving around.

If you’re finding your pump is squeezing your breast too much, try attaching a bra strap adjuster to give your breasts a little more room and support.

To find out more about comfortable pumping, check out our Parent-care blog.

What to expect the first time you pump?

When you pump for the first time, think of it as simply getting to know your body in a new way. You’re already navigating so many changes, so give yourself space to ease into this part of the journey too.

In the early days, try spacing your sessions at different times of the day to see when your milk flows most comfortably. It can be helpful to keep a record of times and volumes in the first few weeks, so you can spot what feels most natural for you.

Remember to be kind to yourself – not every session has to focus on volume, it’s also about catching those moments of relief.

What does good pumping feel like?

A good pumping session starts with a personable fit, supported by the interchangeable inserts to customise the horn size, and varied modes and suction levels to create different patterns. Personalised settings help to keep sessions comfortable to encourage efficient milk flow. This means you don’t need to prolong pumping longer than needed, giving both your nipples a break and time back to yourself.

The convenience of the wearable design can also help mums feel good about having the freedom to pump while multitasking, meaning more downtime later in the day.

Can I pump when my breasts are engorged?

Yes, expressing can relieve some pressure if your breasts are too full for your baby to latch. It’s best to express only enough milk to soften the breast, as fully pumping can increase milk supply and make engorgement worse.

Instead, holding a warm flannel or hot water bottle (avoiding boiling water) can help to soothe. Hand expression with a manual or silicone pump is also a gentle option

It’s recommended to avoid using a wearable breast pump if you don’t plan on breastfeeding or expressing regularly, as this can signal your body to keep producing breast milk.

For more information on how to prevent and relieve breast milk engorgement, please visit our Parent-care blog.

What can I do if I’m not getting enough milk?

Your breast milk supply may fluctuate over time, but if you notice you’re getting less than what's normal for you, try checking…

  • The alignment of your nipple: The centre of your nipple should be positioned in the centre of the horn, without much, if any, of your areola entering the tunnel.

  • Your horn size: The horn should feel comfortable and shouldn't draw in too much of your breast tissue. We recommend measuring the diameter of your nipple, and if the included 24mm horn doesn’t fit comfortably, you can try the 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm and 21mm inserts.

  • The seal: Your pump should feel very secure once the pumping program starts.

  • The fit in your bra: The right fit should feel snug, but not uncomfortable. If your pump sits too high and feels restrictive, we recommend looping the bra strap adjusters to your nursing bra to relieve any tightness and help the pump sit more comfortably.

  • The settings: Everyone is different, so finding the setting that's comfortable and effective for you will help maintain a steady breast milk supply. It’s important to remember that your ideal fit and suction level may change from session to session – this is totally normal and nothing to worry about. We recommend measuring regularly and customising the settings, to suit how you feel.

How often should I pump, and for how long?

Guidelines suggest that expressing little and often is a good rule of thumb, and to recognise that it’s completely normal for your schedule and session length to be different to another parent’s.

How often and how long you pump may be guided on your feeding pattern...

  • Primarily breastfeeding and pumping to build supply: You may express for 15-20 minutes, 30-60 minutes after breastfeeding your baby.

  • Exclusively breast pumping: Pump at the same rate that your baby would usually breastfeed, typically around 8-10 times in 24 hours.

  • Pumping at work: Align with your baby’s usual feeds, typically every 3-4 hours, or at a schedule that works for you both

While the timings above serve as a guideline, listening to your body and your baby will help to shape a routine that works best for you.

Keep in mind that longer, stronger sessions won’t necessarily lead to higher milk output and can lead to soreness and engorgement from overstimulation. For reassurance, the Wearable Breast Pump shuts down after 30 minutes of active use.

Suction

Why does the milk flow drop off when I lean back?

You might feel a temporary reduction in milk flow when you're reclined because the milk has to fight against gravity to reach the collector bottle.

Increase the intensity setting or sit up straight to recover milk flow. For best results, we recommend sitting or standing upright so your milk can flow, and your pump can maintain a consistent latch throughout your session.

What does it mean if my breast pump leaks?

Leaks may happen if the silicone seal is not properly attached. Please make sure you’ve aligned the horn and milk collector correctly, and check that the horn is securely attached to create a good fit.

Why does the suction on my breast pump increase?

When you select a massage mode (Soft-stimulation or Stimulation), and leave to run, your Wearable Breast Pump will gradually increase (every 45 seconds). The pattern mimics a baby’s natural feeding rhythm to help stimulate comfortable, and efficient breast milk flow.

If the suction starts to feel too strong, you can easily drop back down a level using the - button. Similarly, if you’re used to regular pumping, you can increase the suction if you prefer to start on a slightly higher level.

Gradual increases don’t automatically occur in either Expression modes, as breast milk flow has already been established

Cleaning and maintenance

Do I need to sterilise my breast pump after every use?

Yes, every part that comes into contact with breast milk should be cleaned, dried and sterilised after every use, so the components are ready for your next session. This includes the diaphragm, milk collector, duckbill valve, horn and, if used, inserts.

You’ll also need to sterilise any bottles, teats and storage lids used to feed or store breast milk. Breast milk storage bags should be disposed of after use as these cannot be cleaned and sterilised.

All steriliser-safe parts can be sterilised using cold water solution or in Tommee Tippee® UV, steam and microwave sterilisers.

When should I start using my breast pump?

The best time to pump is different for everyone and can depend on how you choose to feed your baby. It can help to think of expressing breast milk as a supply and demand process – the more you pump the more breast milk your body will produce

Healthcare professionals recommend allowing at least 6 weeks to settle into a regular breastfeeding routine to help establish a good latch and regulate breast milk production.

How much breastmilk should I pump?

The amount of breastmilk you can pump in a day really depends on your stage of breastfeeding, your body, and your baby’s needs. There isn’t one “right” amount, but here’s a practical guide:

  • First few days (colostrum): You’ll only get teaspoons at a time, that’s normal and exactly what your baby needs.

  • By 2–3 weeks: Once your milk comes in, most parents can make anywhere from 24–32 ounces (700–950 ml) per day, if exclusively pumping.

  • Established supply: On average, most people produce enough to match what their baby takes, roughly 25–30 ounces (750–900 ml) per day for a full-term baby between 1–6 months.

Best time to pump when breastfeeding per day?

The best time to use your pump is completely down to the routine that works best for you – you may find that you produce more milk at certain times a day.

Although there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, many parents find they express more milk if they pump during the night or first thing in the morning. You can use the following as a guide:

  • Mainly breastfeeding and pumping to increase supply: Express 30-60 minutes after breastfeeding your baby or at least one hour before their next feed.

  • Store breastmilk for later: Express in the morning as milk-producing hormones are more likely to have replenished your supply during the night.

  • Let your partner do the night feed: Express in the evening so breastmilk is available during the night – better still, this milk will contain sleep-promoting hormones.

  • Increase milk supply: Express after each daytime feed to help signal to your body to produce more breastmilk.

If you’re exclusively breast pumping, aim to pump as often as your baby would feed (typically 8-10 sessions for newborns). Try to shape a routine whereby sessions are no longer than 4 hours between each other in the early weeks. For more information please visit: Expressing Breast Milk Guides

How many hours should I breast pump?

A breast pumping session can last between 15 and 45 minutes, but every session can vary. It’s important to measure each session on how your breasts feel, rather than the duration. Remember, longer and stronger sessions don’t necessarily mean more breast milk. We recommend working with the setting that feel most comfortable for you.

With the Double Wearable Pump, the length of your session will depend on whether you’re pumping from one breast, or both at a time. You might also choose to breastfeed from one breast, while expressing from the other.

Signs that you’re coming to the natural end of a session are softer, lighter breasts and a slow-down in breast milk flow.
