Key considerations

How do I help my baby switch between breast and bottle easily?

All of our bottles have been developed with breastfeeding experts so that our unique, easy-latch-on teats mimic the natural flex, stretch and movement of mum’s breast. The Closer To Nature Bottle is most breast-like feeding bottle ever made and even comes with an acceptance guarantee.

My baby has colic - how does the Advanced Anti-Colic bottle help?

The wind, reflux and fussing associated with colic is no fun for anyone. The unique anti-colic venting system draws air away from milk and reduces these symptoms by 80%. Featuring our award-winning breast-like teat for natural latch, it also has a built-in heat sensing strip to ensure that milk is not too hot. All round this bottle offers a more comfortable feed for a colicky baby.

Which bottle is best if I am expressing?

Thanks to our award-winning breast-like teats you can be confident that your baby will accept any of our bottles. But as breast milk is akin to liquid gold you probably won’t want to risk spilling a single drop which is where our genius Express and Go comes in. You can express, store and warm the milk in the same pouch then simply click into the holder to feed - no need to ever transfer your milk.

What size bottles do I need?

Our Closer to Nature and Advanced Anti-Colic bottles come in a range of different sizes from 150ml, to 260ml and 340ml to reflect how much your little one drinks.

Tiny babies have tiny tummies so for very small babies (premature up to about 8 weeks) you may wish to choose a 150ml bottle.

Our standard bottle size is 260ml and is suitable for use from birth, just increase the volume with your baby’s appetite.

You’ll also notice that you have a choice of pack sizes and décor too. How many you’ll need is really down to your feeding choices and preferences but many parents find 4-6 a good number to start with.

Which teat do I need?

Newborns will need a slow flow teat which is what our bottles come with as standard. From around 3 months most are ready for a medium flow teat and then from 6 months can move to a fast flow teat.  The ages are only guides though - you know your baby better than anyone and will be able to tell when they’re ready for a faster flow.

Signs it is time to change include your baby taking longer than 20 minutes to finish a feed, falling asleep whilst feeding or tugging at the teat.

Please note: Even though our Advanced Anti-Colic and Closer To Nature Teats are the same shape they have different features. Find out more in our Guide to Teats.

Which teats do your bottles come with as standard?

All of our bottles except the 340ml version currently come with slow flow teats as standard, as they’re best for newborns. Our 340ml bottle comes with a medium flow teat. As your baby grows and can feed more quickly, you can buy faster flowing replacement teats.

How often should I change teats?

Teats take quite a lot of hammering from little gums and teeth, so they need to be changed regularly. We recommend replacing teats every 2-months or at the first sign of any damage or weakness. You may want to change the flow rate as your baby grows and feeds more too. See our Teats Buying Guide for more information on changing teats.

What does BPA free mean?

BPA is a chemical that’s been used in some plastics since the 1960s and it’s believed to mess around with your hormones. It’s generally not good, so we don’t use it. All Tommee Tippee bottles are BPA-free. They’re made of a plastic called polypropylene that’s lightweight, easy to clean, and completely safe.

Why are your bottles a different shape to others?

As well as our award-winning teats (which are the closest thing in shape and feel to the breast) you may have noticed our bottles have a unique ‘waisted’ design. This makes them extra-easy for both you and baby to hold (as well as looking great, naturally).

Are our bottles easy to clean?

Yes, there’s only three parts to our Closer To Nature bottle making it easy to clean. Disassemble bottle and clean either in warm soapy water or pop on the top shelf of the dishwasher. The bottle and teat brush can help you make sure you get to the hard to reach bits before you sterilise the bottles. Our Advanced Anti-Colic bottles need a little more attention which is all explained here on our support page.
