    Recipe: Three bean chilli
    • The perfect dinnertime meal for weaning babies aged six months and up, this Quick Cook three bean chilli can be cooked in batches and served with couscous.

Beans are a great source of fibre and plant-based vegetarian protein, and adding spices like paprika and cumin to your baby’s food exposes them to a wider variety of tastes and encourages a varied diet as they grow and develop. You can also add avocado or cheese for some additional fat.

This recipe makes six to eight portions.

    • Ingredients
      • 75g courgette

      • 1 small carrot

      • ½ red pepper

      • 1 small onion or ½ a large onion

      • 1 clove of garlic

      • 200g (½ can) of chopped tomatoes

      • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

      • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

      • 1 tin of mixed beans

    • Method
    • Peel the carrot and dice it and the courgette and pepper into one-centimetre pieces. Then, add all of these into the Quick Cook steam basket.
    • Set the steamer for 15 minutes.
    • While the vegetables are steaming, finely chop the onion and crush the garlic.
    • Add to a frying pan with a small amount of oil and fry for five minutes until soft. Set to one side and allow to cool slightly.
    • When the vegetables are cooked, remove the steam basket, and discard the cooking liquid from the jug.
    • Tip the vegetables back into the jug along with the onion. Garlic, spices, and tinned tomatoes.
    • Set the blend function for one minute.
    • While the blend function runs, drain and rinse the beans and warm them in the microwave for one minute.
    • Remove ½ the sauce from the jug (this can be stored for use in the future).
    • Add the beans to the remaining sauce and pulse until you have the desired consistency.
    • Storage
    • You can store this chilli in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Ensure the meal has cooled down completely (and within two hours) before placing it in the fridge. Alternatively, you can freeze it for up to two months in individual portions or a container like an ice cube tray. If you use the containers provided with the Quick Cook machine, you can defrost directly following the instructions in your manual.
