The Road to Parenthood: Sam and Rob’s IVF and Surrogacy Journey

"Starting a family wasn’t a hard decision for us. We both knew we wanted to be fathers and it was one of many common passions which initially drew us together.

Our relationship grew strength to strength and the thought of becoming parents and starting a family together only ever strengthened us.

Our journey to becoming parents involved In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and surrogacy, and it was truly an incredible journey to be involved in. Despite there being physical distance between us and our surrogate we were able to play an active part during the pregnancy. At times the distance was difficult, we missed out things like the late-night cravings, first kicks and the morning sickness. But we made sure to keep a positive attitude throughout and greater appreciate the involvement we were able to have.

We don’t think you can ever fully prepare yourself for becoming parents. No number of nappies, clothes and toys can ever prepare you for life with a newborn! We found it an ever-evolving time, with constant changes and development in our little one. Though it doesn’t come without its challenges and plenty of sleepless nights it has plenty more milestones to embrace and enjoy. We had an even greater appreciation for all of ‘the firsts’ since missing out on some during the pregnancy.

Our little girl Harper is now 11 months old and the past 11 months have been the most fun and enjoyable time. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed becoming parents and forming our family which only makes us more excited for what the future holds. We’d love to expand our family further!

You try and convince yourself that one is enough, and you can’t handle anymore lack of sleep, but nothing outweighs the true highs of parenthood. We would love to try for a second, third or even more in our future. If we are fortunate to be able to do so through IVF and surrogacy that would be truly wonderful."
